Renewables
The main RDI project of the Unit is the development of the
innovative sealing and assembly system of DSC (dye-sensitized solar
cells). This project, requested to QREN and called Solarcel, is made
in partnership with FEUP (Engineering Faculty of Porto University),
EDP Inovação, CUF and CIN. This project is expected to last 3 years
and should be concluded in 2011.
The Solarcel project includes the development of materials and a
sealing system by means of DSC laser modules (registered patent),
new nanostructured catalysts with reduced cost and a pre-industrial
manufacturing line.
In the fi eld of wind energy, by the end of 2010, the Unit concluded
the construction and placed into operation the wind farm of Serra
da Boa Viagem (Figueira da Foz).
The farm, with an installed capacity of 6 MW (V90 Vestas turbines),
was fully developed by Efacec, and included the assessment of
available wind resources, the design of the project in order to
validate the fi nancial profi tability expectations of the business
model, licensing and turn-key construction.
This project gathered conditions to consider the development of
other wind farms in a competitive manner and with attractive
profi tability for the investors.
In the fi eld of photovoltaic energy, still in 2010 was placed into
operation the Photovoltaic Power Plant with 2 MW in the island of
Porto Santo. This system was supplied as a turn-key project.
The Power Plant will contribute towards the reduction of the
dependence on fossil fuels in the island of Porto Santo and the
reduction of greenhouse gas emissions (nearly 1666 thousand tons
of CO2 per year).
The production of photovoltaic energy is enough to supply the
equivalent to 540 houses, a signifi cant percentage of the island’s
needs.
Photovoltaic Power Plant of Caniçal
It was also concluded the photovoltaic power plant of Caniçal,
located in Zona Franca, in the island of Madeira, with a grid
connection power of 6 MW. It is composed of 2 lots, each one has
14 511 photovoltaic panels, with a total array power of 3.312
MWp and 3 inverters. The photovoltaic panel that was used,
a GSM6-230D-E1 model (Glória Solar), has a power of 230 W,
allowing Efacec to integrate substations and monitoring systems.
The two power plants are linked by an internal medium voltage ring
main unit with 6.6 kV, with a single connection point to the public
grid of EEM, with 6 MW. The estimated annual production of the
power plant is 9920 MWh, supplying nearly 3000 thousand houses
and reducing about 6900 tons/year in greenhouse gas emissions
(CO2) released into the atmosphere, taking into account the weight
of the thermal power plants in the island’s production diagram.
Finally, it must be mentioned the Photovoltaic Power Plant of
Parkalgar (100kW), located in the campus of the Autódromo
Internacional do Algarve, as a result of a partnership between GALP
Energia, Autódromo Internacional do Algarve and Efacec, which
went into operation in December 2010. The Power Plant is composed
of 504 photovoltaic panels (GE 205 Wp), being that the remaining
equipment of the power switching network is composed of Efacec
technology: inverter, transformers, medium voltage switchgear.
In the scope of the MOBI.E electric mobility programme, the
installation of charging stations for electric vehicles was also
carried out at this site.
Regarding microgeneration and the strategy defi ned for the
microproduction distributed in Portugal, the Unit developed a
competitive integrated solution (solar photovoltaic, solar thermal
and wind energies), exceeding the amount of 250 installations with
a competitive solution. It is also worth mentioning the participation
of the Unit in the development of other innovative integrated
solutions for solar tracking systems and the participation of Efacec
as a partner in the microgeneration solution of EDP MyEnergy.
