• The Unit concluded the sixth line of the Metro do Porto network,
also known as Line F (or “Orange Line”), which directly links
the station of Senhora da Hora, in Matosinhos, to the station of
Fânzeres, in Gondomar. The work executed for this new section
included the construction of an additional 7 km and 10 new
stations. Efacec took part in the consortium for the construction
of this new line, being responsible for its entire electromechanical
component, which includes energy systems (catenary, traction
system, medium and high voltage auxiliary systems, SCADA,
public lighting, escalators and elevators), communication
systems (fi bre optics network and transmission network, public
information system, telephone system, voice and data system)
and safety systems (video surveillance system, fi re fi ghting and
detection system, anti-theft system, road signals for crossroads
and roundabouts, air pumping and ventilation system). With this
line’s inauguration, the network of the Metro do Porto now has a
total of 80 stations throughout 67 km of line. Efacec took part in
all phases of conception and development of this network, which
is already a worldwide reference in urban transport systems.
• The Ferrocarriles de la Junta de Andalucía (railways of the
Andalusian autonomous government) adjudicated to a Consortium
comprised by Efacec and Avanzit a contract for the execution of
the electric installations and power supply of the Tram of Bahía
de Cádiz (Chiclana-San Fernando-Cádiz). This project includes
the installation of an overhead contact line (catenary) as well as
the installation of any equipment to supply and distribute energy
to the catenaries that supply power directly to trains and other
machines of this transportation system (stops and emergency
systems, among others). The Tram of Bahía de Cádiz, which
includes 22 stops, is an infrastructure of transports that operates
in the Junta de Andalucía and will have a total length of 24 km.
• In April, in the scope of RDI (Research, Development and Innovation)
activities, the RDI meeting of the Transports Business Unit took
place in Serralves Museam, including nearly 200 participants.
Several presentations concerning the activities and strategies of
this Unit, the implementation of the Research, Development and
Investigation Management System, the implementation of the IRIS
- International Railway Industry Standard, Risk Management, the
requirements of the CMMI - Capability Maturity Model Integration
and the main Research and Development projects, completed the
agenda of the meeting.
• In 2010, it was clear the investment that was made in the
Transports Unit regarding the development of new solutions for
the Transports market as well as the investment in solutions whose
end is to conservate energy as well as provide global sustainability,
as evidenced by the main developed projects: Electric propulsion
system for an electric powered Bus; Charging solutions for electric
vehicles in Portugal, with a crucial role in the MOBI.E project;
Update of functionalities for railway command centers as well as
the development of a new road transport command center; Safety
signalling system for light metros, as well as low-traffi c railroads;
Energy recovery system for DC traction substations; Hardware

development prepared for Space fl ight, for the ESA (European
Space Agency).
• In this scope, Efacec was one of the fi rst worldwide companies to
have quick chargers for electric vehicles certifi ed by the CHAdeMO
Association, based in Japan. The award of this certifi cation
specifi cally allowed Efacec’s chargers to support the European
launch of the new Nissan Leaf in Lisbon, which took place between
the 18th of October and the 15th of November 2010. Thus, by
launching an internationalization strategy for activity in electric
mobility, Efacec obtained its fi rst order from Nissan for quick
chargers, to equip their Technical Center located in the United
Kingdom, as well as to be used at events to promote the Leaf in
Europe.
• The Unit consolidated its position in the market of
Telecommunications in Angola. Through a joint work developed
by Efacec Angola and the Transports Unit’s Communication
Infrastructures Department (part of Efacec Engenharia e Sistemas),
the company successfully entered the Mobile Telecommunications
market of Angola. Businesses have been developed at a growing
rate with the main local operator – UNITEL - in successive projects.
Activities include assembly of stations, reengineering for UMTS,
special projects in buildings and facilities, among others, with
an increasingly important local component of Human Resources.
Efacec also ensures the manufacture and supply of equipments and
materials necessary to implement projects, planning, consultancy,
training of employees and technical supervision of activities.
Of the last orders received by the same customer during this stage,
Rollout 2010 stands out. The several specialized interventions
in the network optimization area should also be mentioned.
Equally important, is the beginning of a collaboration regarding
development projects for the network of the second mobile
operator – MOVICEL (which already has a signifi cant order volume)
– and a rather large Fiber Optic layout for MSTELCOM, within the
scope of fi xed networks.
• Activities leading to the conclusion of the Algiers Metro project
continued to take place.
• The Unit inaugurated several stations for the metro company of
São Paulo, which was a great success for the metro lines of the
city of São Paulo. In August, Efacec concluded the station of Vila
Prudente and, in September, the station of Tamanduateí. These
stations are included in the scope of the contract signed with the
metro company of São Paulo in 2008, for the expansion of Linha 2
Verde (green line 2). This contract included the execution of the
project, supply and installation of the electrical supply system,
including the primary substation of Tamanduateí, auxiliary systems
and air ventilation for the main section of Alto do Ipiranga–Vila
Prudente.
• The Unit concluded the supply of a 230 kV substation to discharge
energy from the thermal power plant of Pécem 1, as well as the
respective line of 13 km and the incoming bay of the substation of
Cauípe (belonging to Chesf), to connect it to the primary grid. This
turn-key project included design, supply and installation.
