Shell states, “Concentrations of metals and Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons
(PAHs) in sediments of watercourses and water bodies are generally lower than
the Interim Sediment Quality Guideline. There are occasional exceedance of the
ISQG values by concentrations of chromium in the upper Muskeg River, zinc in
the middle Muskeg River and arsenic in Stanley Creek. Concentrations of six
PAHs also occasionally exceed the ISQG values. These PAHs are
dibenzo(a,h)anthracene, C1-substituted naphthalenes, benzo(a)anthracene,
chrysene, phenanthrene and pyrene.”
73a What is the time period, framework and sampling sequence for these field
analyses?
Response 73a The time period, framework and sampling sequence for the field program
conducted in support of the EIA are presented in Section 3.2.4 of the surface
water quality environmental setting report (Golder 2007). A description of
historical data sources used in the analysis is presented in Section 3.2.3 of the
surface water quality environmental setting report (Golder 2007).

Response 73b Comparisons of Pierre River Mine area sediment quality data with sediment
quality guidelines are presented in Appendix F of the environmental setting
report and discussed in Section 3.5 of the environmental setting report (Golder
2007).
