WATER AENV SIRS 15 – 43 Section 12.1 Response 23a Morton’s Evaporation model was used to determine Potential Evapotranspiration (PET). The input to Morton’s Evaporation model includes mean annual precipitation, monthly mean wind speed, monthly mean relative humidity or dew point temperature, and monthly mean solar radiation data recorded at the Fort McMurray Airport climate station from 1954 to 2006. The modified Table AENV 23-1 provides a list of specific input data used to estimate Potential Evapotranspiration (PET), areal actual evapotranspiration, Potential Lake Evaporation (PE), and Actual Lake Evaporation. Question No. 24 Request Volume 2, SIR 292b, Page 21-45. Shell states that this question does not apply because it is not applicable to Pierre River. It is noted however that the same mapping techniques, symbology and EIA development systems have been used for both projects – Section 6.4.6.2, Figure 6.4-18, Page 6-317 shows that Question 292b is likely applicable, since the same mapping protocols appear to be in place for Pierre River as for Jackpine. 24a Address SIR 292b in relation to Pierre River using Figure 6.4-18, Page 6-317 as a basis for reference, and address in relation to all proposed, reclaimed or created wetlands for Pierre River. Response 24a Figure AENV 24-1 presents a revised version of Figure 6.4-18. Request 24b Clarify what wetland ecosites are targeted in the littoral zone of pit lakes with examples of target plant and animals species. Response 24b Littoral zones will consist of marshes (MONG) and shallow open water wetlands. Plant and animal species typical of graminoid marsh (MONG) wetlands types are expected in the reclaimed marsh ecosite types. Emergent sedges, grasses, rushes, reeds, submerged and floating aquatics are among the plant families expected in the reclaimed marshes.
