Chapter 5: Using Response Files with Installers The script that will run the launcher installer in this example is in the same folder as the script and the properties file. The script gets the hostname, puts in a variable, and then uses the hostname in the key variables that an installation to customize: ● The container name ● The container path (and folder hierarchy) ● The Windows Service name The adjusted variables are passed into the silent installation as overrides to the values in the properties file. The container is then started, connects to the domain, and records the configuration. Rerunning the script will fail when trying to install in the same location. Security Considerations in Silent Container Installations The properties file that provided the responses for the silent installation contained connection information that includes an administrator name and password. If you distribute the silent setup package or leave it on host systems, you should be concerned if you have enabled security in the management node. You can avoid this situation when systems and network personnel run the script from a secure server at the time the system is imaged and assigned its hostname.
