Chapter 8: Upgrading from 7.5 or 7.6 to 8.5 script—if used without modifications—fixed every container’s working directory at the installation’s MQ7.n root. The configuration of the container (cache and log) and the broker (recovery log and data store) were relative offsets from the canonical working directory. In 8.5, each container has a unique subdirectory in the installation’s Containers directory that contains the configuration file and the launch script for the container as well as the container’s cache and log, and the broker’s recovery log and data store. This transition requires that the upgrade properties for a container that are extracted need to locate the 7.5 or 7.6 installation’s MQ7.0 root. You will edit each upgrade.properties file to add the explicit path to the 7.5 or 7.6 working directory. ● License keys — The remote systems do not have license keys for the products they are upgrading. You will edit each upgrade.properties file to add its 8.5 keys. ● What’s running, what’s not running — The 8.5 Domain Manager should be running during all upgrades of container-based components. A broker’s container does not have to be shutdown if it is upgraded through the upgrade tool and the tool has a management connection. The upgrade tool will shutdown the container when the time comes to copy the broker database. Sequence of 7.5 and 7.6 to 8.5 Component Upgrade Tasks The tasks for container and component upgrades after the Domain Manager has been upgraded are: 1. Start the containers in each 7.5 and 7.6 installation that will be upgraded. 2. Install the 8.5 Sonic Container Launcher on each system to be upgraded. a. Specify a new installation location. b. Choose to not install a container. 3. Open a command prompt to the Launcher installation’s Upgrade/bin directory. 4. Use the upgradeProps script to extract the information about a container and its components from the upgraded 8.5 Directory Service. 5. Edit the extracted upgrade.properties file to specify the 7.5 or 7.6 working directory (if needed), the 8.5 license keys, and possibly other available properties. 6. Use the upgrade script to initiate the migration of the configuration and stores, and the provisioning of the installation with 8.5 functionality. 196 Progress Sonic Installation and Upgrade Guide 8.5
Phases of Upgrades from 7.5 and 7.6 to Sonic 8.5 The procedure below describes an upgrade of an independent broker configurations. It applies equally well to ESB services. The process is identical for installations created by the Sonic installers and ones created by the Sonic Depoloyment Manager. Using the upgradeProps Script to Extract a Container Configuration ◆ To extract the properties of a container and its hosted components: 1. On a local system that has a 7.5 or 7.6 installation, and a 8.5 Sonic Container Launcher installation (see “Installing The Sonic Launcher on Distributed Hosts” on page 111), open a window to the 8.5_launcher_install_root/Upgrade/bin location. 2. Enter: upgradeProps -url broker -d domain -u user -p pwd /container_path where: ■ -url is a connection URL on the Version 8 management broker ■ -d is the domain name. The default value is Domain1. ■ -u is an administrative user in the Version 8 domain (typically, Administrator) ■ -p is the administrative user’s password (optional if security is not enabled) ■ /dm_container_path is the path of the container in the domain’s Directory Service. For example, /Containers/ct11. The process runs, creating a text file in the 8.5_launcher_install_root/Upgrade/bin directory named upgrade.properties.
