Chapter 2: Using Progress Sonic Installer
◆ To start the Installer wizard on Red Hat Linux:
1. Access and install the appropriate JVM for the installer. Refer to the Progress Sonic
Web site for the supported platforms for the Sonic installer and for the installation.
2. If you are installing from distribution media, put the disk into your machine’s
CD/DVD drive.
Important The mount command or procedure that you use must support mixed case and file
names that are not restricted to eight characters with a three-character extension.
Consult with your IT department to define the command syntax or procedure that
supports mixed case and longer file names when mounting the CD/DVD drive.
3. In a terminal window, change directories to the directory where install.bin is
located.
Note When using remote login, and using an X-Session that accepts remote connections,
you might need to enter the command DISPLAY=hostname:0;export DISPLAY before
launching the installer.
4. Confirm that the correct Java for the installer is the first Java in the path by entering
which java or java -version.
5. Launch the installer startup script: install.bin.
The installer starts. Follow the procedures for “Running the Sonic Installer” on page 69.
