Chapter 8: Upgrading from 7.5 or 7.6 to 8.5 Upgrading a V7.5 or V7.6 Fault Tolerant Management Framework to 8.5 If you are using a V7.5 or V7.6 fault tolerant management framework topology, the following steps prepare your management installation for the transition such that you can rollback to the pre-upgrade topology while establishing the new one. ◆ To prepare a V7.5 or V7.6 fault tolerant management framework for upgrade: 1. On the Manage tab of the Sonic Management Console connected to the domain to be upgraded, expand the container that hosts the Domain Manager, right-click on DIRECTORY SERVICE, and then choose Properties, as shown: 2. In the Edit Runtime Directory Service Properties dialog box, select the Fault Tolerance tab. 3. Verify that you have a functioning topology: ■ One of the components has the Primary role and the other has the Backup role. ■ One of the components has the Active state and the other has the Standby state. ■ On the General tab, both containers indicate that they are Online. ■ The state of the Agent Manager in each container matches the state of its Directory Service component. 4. If the component in the Primary role is not the one in the Active state, induce failover by selecting the container hosting the DS in the Backup role, and then choosing Operations > Restart. The Primary components assume the Active state. 5. Right-click on the Directory Service in the Primary role, and then choose Operations > Perform Online Backup. Archive the Directory Service backup folder. 6. Stop the 7.5 or 7.6 Sonic Management Console. With the fault tolerant management framework fully functional, and the Primary components in the Active state, you can proceed with the upgrade. 212 Progress Sonic Installation and Upgrade Guide 8.5
◆ To establish the 8.5 primary Domain Manager location: Upgrading a Fault Tolerant Management Framework 1. Use the Sonic Installer to create a new installation location for a Domain Manager on the same system as the 7.5 or 7.6 primary Domain Manager. (See “Installing a Domain Manager” on page 87 for details.) 2. Enter your 8.5 SonicMQ Key. Enter other keys if you have them available. 3. On the Configure Domain Manager panel, select the Do not configure domain at this time option. The other values on that panel will be ignored, so click Next. 4. Choose a Java VM. 5. Click Install and complete the installation. ◆ To extract the properties of the primary Domain Manager: 1. Open a console window to the 8.5_install_root/MQ8.5/bin location. 2. Enter: upgradeProps -url broker -d domain -u user -p pwd /dm_container_path where: ■ -url is a connection URL on the Version 7 management broker (typically, tcp://primaryDM_host:2506) ■ -d is the domain name. The default value is Domain1. ■ -u is an administrative user in the Version 7 domain (typically, Administrator) ■ -p is the administrative user’s password (optional if security is not enabled) ■ /dm_container_path is the DS location of the container that hosts the primary Directory Service in the Version 7 domain (typically, /Containers/DomainManager) The process runs, creating a text file in the 8.5_install_root/MQ8.5/bin folder named upgrade.properties. ◆ To perform the upgrade of the primary Domain Manager: 1. Use the console window that is open at the 8.5_install_root/MQ8.5/bin location. 2. Enter: upgrade upgrade.properties The primary Domain Manager components and stores are moved to the 8.5 location and file structure, and then upgraded. The upgrade proceeds to perform the upgrade, moving the version 7 components and stores of the primary Domain Manager to the 8.5 installation location.
