Chapter 7: Upgrading Version 8 Domains and Tools
Introduction
The upgrade procedure for Sonic Version 8 installations takes place on each Domain
Manager—Sonic Workbench, SonicMQ Development, or deployment primary Sonic
Domain Manager—that is at 8.0 or higher. The Domain Manager must be running. The
upgrade will be interspersed into the existing installation directory, with new versionidentified
folders for each product. The update procedure is a few tasks that extract the
existing Directory Service, stop the existing domain, and then start the upgraded domain
and import the configurations.
Administration Tools are a tools-only install with no date stores. You can simply install
the newer tools in a different location. You must use 8.5 Administration Tools to access
an 8.5 Domain Manager.
The upgrade processes differ significantly for Version 8 Domain Manager systems, and
distributed components:
