Chapter 7: Upgrading Version 8 Domains and Tools Phases of Upgrades from Sonic 8.0 to Sonic 8.5 The phases of upgrade a Sonic 8.0 domain, its configured objects and deployments are: ● Phase I — Perform upgrade operations on the Domain Manager. The Sonic Installer installs all the licensed products and the administration tools on Workbench, MQ Development, and deployment Domain Manager systems. The configuration of the 8.5 Domain Manager is not done at the time of installation—the upgrade process will connect to the 8.0 domain to migrate the entire Directory Service to 8.5. Finally, the task of updating classloading paths in service types completes the phase. ● Phase II — Perform upgrade operations on tools-only machines. After a deployment Domain Manager has been upgraded, tools installed on other machines must be upgraded. See “Installing Administration Tools” on page 91 Phase III — Perform upgrade on managed components through administration tools to provision archives and launchers on distributed hosts. After a deployment Domain Manager has been upgraded, components and tools installed on other machines must be upgraded. Phase I: Upgrade Sonic 8.0 Domain Installations to 8.5 The sequence of actions involves inserting the 8.5 product folders into the 8.0 installation location without configuring the domain. Important What’s running? — For a Workbench, stop everything on the Domain Manager machine. For other Domain Manger types (MQ Development, deployment Domain Manager), the Domain Manager must be running. The operations described in this phase are: 1. Phases of Upgrades from Sonic 8.0 to Sonic 8.5 ● If your deployment Domain Manager is a fault-tolerant management framework, finish by “Completing an Upgrade of a Fault Tolerant Management Framework” on page 183 Adding Sonic 8.5 Workbench into a Sonic 8.0 Workbench Location Important The existing Eclipse environment needs to have fully started and gracefully shutdown so that it creates the settings files that the upgrade procedure uses. ◆ To upgrade Sonic Workbench 8.0 to 8.5: 1. Stop the Workbench’s Eclipse environment. 2. Stop the Workbench’s Domain Manager. 3. Stop the Sonic Management Console. 4. Use the Sonic Installer to point to an existing Sonic 8.0 installation location of Sonic Workbench. “Installing a Progress Sonic Workbench” on page 76. 5. Choose Sonic Development, and then enter your Sonic Workbench 8.5 license key. 6. On the Configure Sonic Workbench panel, select the Do not configure domain at this time option. The other values on that panel will be ignored, so click Next. 7. Choose an Eclipse. Choosing an existing Eclipse will determine whether it is supported. 8. Choose a Java VM. Choosing an existing JVM will confirm whether it is supported. 9. Click Install and complete the installation. 10. Proceed to “Extracting the 8.0 Domain Manager’s Properties” on page 179. Adding Sonic 8.5 Domain Manager into a Sonic 8.0 MQ Dev Location ◆ To upgrade SonicMQ Development 8.0 to 8.5: 1. Start the Sonic 8.0 Domain Manager you want to upgrade. 2. If you have any Sonic Management Consoles running, shut them down. 3. Use the Sonic Installer to point an existing Sonic 8.0 installation location of SonicMQ Development. “Installing SonicMQ for Development” on page 82. 4. Choose Sonic Development, and then enter your SonicMQ 8.5 license key. 5. On the Configure MQ Development panel, select the Do not configure domain at this time option.
