Chapter 8: Upgrading from 7.5 or 7.6 to 8.5
completed, the upgrade utility stops the version 7 primary and backup components, and
then immediately starts the 8.5 primary Domain Manager—it takes the ACTIVE state.
The upgrade process on the backup Domain Manager’s system will first connect to the 8.5
primary Domain Manager’s broker to access the backup’s component properties in the
Directory Service.
◆ To extract the properties of the backup Domain Manager:
1. Use the Sonic Installer to create a new installation location for a Domain Manager on
the same system as the version 7 backup Domain Manager. (See “Installing a Domain
Manager” on page 87 for details.)
2. On the Configure Domain Manager panel, select the Do not configure domain at this
time option. The other values on that panel will be ignored, so click Next.
3. Choose a Java VM.
4. Click Install and complete the installation.
5. Open a console window to the 8.5_install_root/MQ8.5/bin location.
6. Enter: upgradeProps -url broker -d domain -u user -p pwd /dm_container_path
where:
■ -url is a connection URL on the 8.5 primary management broker (typically,
tcp://primaryDM_host:2506)
■ -d is the domain name. The default value is Domain1.
■ -u is an administrative user in the domain (typically, Administrator)
■ -p is the administrative user’s password (optional if security is not enabled)
■ /dm_container_path is the DS location of the container that hosts the backup
Directory Service in the 8.5 domain (typically,
/Containers/BackupDomainManagerBU)
The process runs, creating a text file in the 8.5_install_root/MQ8.5/bin folder named
upgrade.properties.
