Chapter 1: Overview of Installations and Upgrades Accessing Progress Sonic Documentation Every installation of Progress Sonic 8.5 products includes progress_sonic_welcome.htm at the root of the installation. The documentation welcome page points to the version’s documentation location, download site, and other Progress resources. ◆ To access a welcome page, do any of the following: ● In a browser, open sonic_install_dir/progress_sonic_welcome.htm. ● On Windows, select Start > Programs > Progress > Sonic8.5 > Documentation. ● On Sonic Workbench, choose Help > Sonic Documentation. Accessing Progress Sonic Documentation The links on the Welcome page connect to the following Progress web locations: ● Access Documentation — Opens the Sonic 8.5 documentation page at its remote site. ● Download Documentation Packages — Downloads of the complete set of books and APIs, focused documentation subsets, and online access to the most current documentation. ● View the Release Notes — Complete reporting of known issues and resolved issues in all the Sonic 8.5 products. (You can access earlier Sonic 8 release notes at PSDN.) ● Download Software — The Electronic Software Download Site (ESD) provides Progress Software customers and prospects controlled access to all Progress Software products. ● Go to Sonic Communities and Forums — Check in with a vibrant community for discussions, code sharing, whitepapers, and webinars ● Go to the Progress Sonic web site — Sonic's home page links to success stories, solutions, resources, support, news, and events. ● Get Support — Sonic's support page lets you find the currently supported platforms, resources, knowledgebase, and technical support offerings that you need. ● Contact Progress Software — Request information, and locate Progress Software offices worldwide. Important Documentation on Media — If you are denied access to the public internet, request the Progress Sonic 8.5 Documentation disk from your Progress representative. Accessing Sonic Workbench Documentation Ther are alternate formats of Sonic Workbench online help. In an installed and running Sonic Workbench: ■ Choose Help > Help Contents to access the online help in the Workbench. ■ Choose Help > Sonic Documentation to access the Progress Sonic 8.5 Welcome page where you can connect to the 8.5 documentation page at its remote site to: ❑ Read and download Sonic Workbench Online Help formatted in PDF books ❑ Connect to the remote Infocenter of the Sonic Workbench online help.
