Chapter 2: Using Progress Sonic Installer The Choose Installation Location panel opens. 5. Choose whether you are adding features to an existing installation, or creating a new installation: ■ Select Add features to an installation location when an installation skipped some products. Choose this option to extend the installation to include additional products. You must then choose the existing Install Location to extend. See “Extending an Existing Installation” on page 101 for more information. ■ Select Install into a new location to specify an empty or non-existent folder for the installation. Specify the path on a local drive that is a new or empty folder. The default folder on Windows is C:\Program Files\Progress\Sonic, and the default folder on UNIX and Linux is /opt/user/Progress/Sonic. Important Spaces in Path Names — Spaces are allowed in Windows location paths. Spaces are not allowed in UNIX and Linux location paths. 72 Progress Sonic Installation and Upgrade Guide 8.5
Running the Sonic Installer Note Characters in installation location names — The installer does not accept some characters that, while acceptable as folder names on the target platform, can create problems in evaluation of names in SonicMQ and the Sonic ESB product family. The filtered characters are: ampersand (&), semicolon(;), caret (^), equal sign (=), plus sign (+), comma (,), tilde (~), bang (!), at sign (@), pound (#), dollar sign ($), percent (%), open/close parentheses (( )), open/close brackets ([ ]), and open/close braces ({ }). While spaces in names are not filtered, a good practice is to avoid spaces, using an underscore (_) as a separator, such as my_folder/my_subfolder. Uppercase and camelCase in names is valid but you can minimize potential issues on disparate platforms by maintaining all names in lowercase. Keep the path name brief and—while embedded spaces are supported for this use in Progress Sonic—using spaces in a path name is not advised as it might require you to place path statements in quotation marks in custom scripts and other toolsets.
