Chapter 1: Overview of Installations and Upgrades
When SonicMQ is installed as part of the Progress Sonic Workbench, it always performs
a complete, security-enabled SonicMQ installation—Domain Manager, management
broker, tools, and client functionality. You can customize some settings such as the
installation location, and port numbers for communications and connection requests.
Important Java Runtime Environment — Under Windows, the installer can install the Java Runtime
Environment or you can identify a JVM that is already installed; however, on systems
other than Windows, you must have pre-installed a local Java Virtual Machine as the
installers do not provide one.
If your installation is on UNIX or Linux, first look at the UNIX specific and Linux
specific information in “Types of Progress Sonic 8.5 Installations” on page 27, as well as
Installation Issues in the release notes. Also, browse to the Support page at
progress.com/sonic and go to the current Supported Platforms page for Sonic Operating
System Version and JVM Vendor Version information.
