Uma reflexão sobre o caso brasileiro)André Panno BeirãoABSTRACTThe outcry in support of world peace is very longst<strong>and</strong>ing. However, perhaps its greatest institutionalexpression has been consolidated with the peacekeeping operations (PKO) championed by the UnitedNations. During the Cold War such instruments were used infrequently; however, post-1988, therewas an increase in peacekeeping operations. This paper offers a reflection on the possible reasonsthat lead countries to wish to participate in peace operations <strong>and</strong> seeks to identify categories <strong>and</strong>motives for that participation. It demonstrates that, more than out of ideas of solidarity, the State’sreal interests are recognition by the international community <strong>and</strong> the financing of its armed forces.It discusses specifically the Brazilian case, <strong>and</strong> the choice taken by the government in internationalpolitics to increase its participation in these operations.Por lo que China luchará en América Latinaen la próxima generación(What China will Fight For in Latin America in the Coming Generation)Evan EllisRESUMENMientras que el comercio y la inversión china en América Latina se exp<strong>and</strong>an, la República PopularChina (RPC) esta acumul<strong>and</strong>o intereses en la región.
