Appliances with emotional appeal, featuring straight
lines, pure geometric forms or other contemporary
designs, creating atmospheres but doing much
more besides. Today’s hoods don’t just suck out cooking
fumes: they are required to work even harder and quieter
as well as saving on energy and serving a range of extra
functions. The design beauties that are today’s extraction
systems also have to offer a range of performance features,
satisfying all the design standards needed to clean
they air quickly and efficiently, especially in the new, less
clearly defined spaces that combine the kitchen with the
living area, where fume extraction power is more important
than ever. At the same time, hoods are required to produce
as little noise as possible while they are running: whisperquiet
operation is an essential aspect of these appliances -
part of the effort to achieve the highest possible degree of
indoor living comfort. Client requirements and the architectural
features of the space determine the choice of the
best hood system. Now there are types of every shape and
size: wall-mounted or island hoods that are interior design
features in their own right, and ones that are kept out of
sight and brought out only when actually required. But the
most popular kind remain the ones with the cleanest lines
and most elegant look, because they work equally well in
modern and traditional kitchens. Meanwhile designers are
looking for ever more sophisticated, advanced systems,
using perimeter extraction methods to occupy as little of
the work area as possible.
Versatility is also key. The outer surfaces of hoods can be
made of a range of different materials to suit the aesthetic
demands of the room: steel and glass in particular create
sleek, eye-catching installations as well as ensuring high
levels of safety, but other materials are also appearing, including
porcelainised stoneware. In many cases illumination
is included to enhance the look of the appliance even
further: lighting can be incorporated into the body of the
hood and turn it into a beautiful chandelier that adds extra
character to the kitchen in which it is installed.

La prossima entrata in vigore della classificazione energetica ci ha spinto ad aumentare
gli investimenti in ricerca e sviluppo, dalla sperimentazione dei motori brushless
all’illuminazione a led, con l’obiettivo di abbattere consumi e rumorosità. Perfetto esempio
di multifunzionalità nella purificazione dell’aria è l’integrazione tra filtri al carbone lavabili
e ionizzazione, che rende il prodotto ideale per le case in classe energetica A.

Se consideriamo che la cappa è uno strumento in grado di aumentare il comfort
abitativo, il tema dell’aria viene affrontato tecnologicamente per migliorare
principalmente le caratteristiche di efficienza e aspirazione. La ricerca tecnologia,
associata a quella stilistica, hanno contribuito ad innovare la cappa sia accentuando
le peculiarità estetiche e funzionali, sia instaurando nuove relazioni tra utente ed
oggetto. Il lavoro svolto da Elica è stato quello di “industrializzare” questi concetti per
tutti i mercati, progettando prodotti che, insieme al risparmio energetico, la silenziosità
e l’usabilità, tengano conto anche di altri importanti aspetti tra cui la sicurezza, senza
trascurare poi la cura del prodotto con la relativa qualità e immagine emozionale.
If we consider the hood to be an instrument capable of improving the degree of
comfort in our living environments, the question of air management needs to be
tackled technologically in order to improve extraction efficiency first and foremost.
Both technical and stylistic developments have brought innovations in hood design,
not only by accentuating aesthetic and functional features, but also by establishing
new relationships between appliance and user. What Elica has done is
to “industrialise” these concepts for all the markets, designing products which
- together with energy saving, whisper-quiet operation and usability - also take
account of other important aspects such as safety, without neglecting attention
to design and emotional appeal.

Faber segue con cospicui investimenti in R&D tutti gli aspetti prestazionali che
contraddistinguono il prodotto cappa. In cima alla lista, troviamo senza dubbio
la riduzione del rumore e dei consumi energetici. La silenziosità del prodotto può
essere assicurata mediante l’utilizzo di speciali materiali per attutire il rumore, della
fluidodinamica (con la quale studiamo sia diffusori particolarmente performanti
sia le giuste forme e dimensioni del prodotto) o di avanzati sistemi insonorizzanti.
Faber ha già introdotto da tempo sul mercato i sistemi Sil-K (the Silence Key) XP
ed SM, che già permettono una importante riduzione del rumore, rispettivamente
di 12 e 7 decibel. Il tema della riduzione dei consumi è altrettanto importante,
ma va precisato che uno degli obiettivi di fondo è cercare di rispettare i parametri
