philosophical treatment of free speech.<br />
John Durham Peters, Courting the Abyss: Free Speech and the Liberal<br />
Tradition (Chicago: University of Chicago Press, 2005) is a recent exploration<br />
of the Anglo-American free speech tradition.<br />
T. M. Scanlon, The Difficulty of Tolerance: Essays in Political Philosophy<br />
(Cambridge: Cambridge University Press, 2003) includes several important<br />
articles on free speech.<br />
Frederick Schauer, Free Speech: A Philosophical Enquiry (Cambridge: Cambridge<br />
University Press, 1982) is a clear, well-argued treatment of the<br />
topic that is still relevant to present-day debates.<br />
