preferential physical adherence of the nanocomposite to f<strong>in</strong>gerpr<strong>in</strong>t material.<br />

In general, chemical reaction rates <strong>in</strong>crease with <strong>in</strong>creas<strong>in</strong>g temperature.<br />

Accord<strong>in</strong>gly, the diimide pretreatment was exam<strong>in</strong>ed at 60°C <strong>in</strong> comparison<br />

with room temperature. At the elevated temperature, severe chemical attack<br />

on the alum<strong>in</strong>um foil substrate of samples occurred for heat<strong>in</strong>g times longer<br />

than about 1 hr. For shorter heat<strong>in</strong>g times, no f<strong>in</strong>gerpr<strong>in</strong>t development<br />

enhancement was observed. If there is chemical b<strong>in</strong>d<strong>in</strong>g of the generation 4<br />

nanocomposite to f<strong>in</strong>gerpr<strong>in</strong>t constituents <strong>in</strong> the absence of diimide, one<br />

might expect an enhancement of f<strong>in</strong>gerpr<strong>in</strong>t development with temperature<br />

upon direct application of the CdS/dendrimer solution. Such enhancement<br />

was <strong>in</strong>deed observed.<br />
