Seasonal Stability of Palatability and Solvent Extracts
A4 showed highpalatabilitythroughout theyear andwas completelyconsumedin thefirst two nights with only one
exception (Fig. 1). In contrast, U36 andN4 were not eatenmucheven afterA4 was depleted. In one instance,however, U36
waseaten afterA4 was depleted although N4 did not show any such tendency. The two hares showed a notablesimilarityin
their feeding.

The mass of essential oils in A4 was much less than that in U36or N4 throughout the year (Fig. 2). Also, the amount
of dichloromethane extract from A4 was much less than that from the other two unpalatable clones in all seasons. In contrast,
the amount of methanol extract was not much different among the three clones.
