NOTE: 10 credit hours must be completed at <strong>Roane</strong> <strong>State</strong> in order to meet the<br />

graduation residency requirement. (See page 61)<br />

PHARMACY TECHNICIAN<br />

Pharmacy Technician is a nine-month certificate program designed to prepare students<br />

to enter the pharmacy field as trained technicians with certification from the<br />

Pharmacy Technician Certification Board. Professional courses in the program are<br />

taught during the day at the <strong>Roane</strong> County campus. Included in the program are directed<br />

practices at both community and institutional pharmacy practice sites.<br />

Admission Requirements<br />

1. Submit a pharmacy technician application form to the Math/Sciences department<br />

before the August 14 deadline.<br />

2. Complete a <strong>Roane</strong> <strong>State</strong> application and admission requirements for the special<br />

student category.<br />

3. Submit an official copy of high school transcript, GED scores or college transcript.<br />

4. Demonstrate an acceptable proficiency in reading, math and English with a minimum<br />

ACT score of 19 in all three areas or the completion of Developmental<br />

Reading (DSPR 0800), Intermediate Algebra (DSPM 0850) and Developmental<br />

Writing (DSPW 0800).<br />

5. Be interviewed and accepted by the Pharmacy Technician program committee.<br />

Retention Policies<br />

1. A student must maintain a “C” or better in all program courses.<br />

2. Prior to clinical training, evidence of malpractice insurance and a physical<br />

examination must be provided.<br />

3. Students may have to register with the Tennessee Board of Pharmacy before<br />

attending clinicals.<br />

4. Students admitted to the program whose use of alcohol or consciousnessaltering<br />

drugs interferes with their performance will be referred for a drug<br />

screen and counseling. Failure to correct the problem will result in dismissal<br />

from the program.<br />

5. Disciplinary actions will be processed through the Dean of the Math/Sciences<br />

Department.<br />

Readmission Procedures<br />

1. A student may be considered for readmission to the Pharmacy Technician program<br />

if all of the following criteria are met:
