Students meeting the stated circumstances may apply for late withdrawal as follows:<br />

1. Obtain Request for Late Withdrawal form from the Records and Registration<br />

Office or download from the Records and Registration web page (www.roane<br />

state.edu).<br />

2. Complete the form and attach documentation of circumstances as stated above.<br />

Forms received without the required documentation cannot be considered.<br />

3. Return the form to the Records and Registration Office for review.<br />

Any exceptions to this policy must be submitted in writing to the Registrar to be reviewed<br />

by a committee of the Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Vice President<br />

for Student and Enrollment Management and the Registrar. (No appeals will be accepted<br />

one calendar year after the semester in which the late withdrawal is being<br />

sought.)<br />

NOTE: Students enrolled in Developmental Studies courses are not allowed to<br />

withdraw from these courses unless extenuating circumstances exist.<br />

Approval must be granted by the Director of Developmental Studies or a<br />

designee.<br />

All equipment belonging to the college must be accounted for or paid for and<br />

all financial obligations met. If it is impossible for the student to take these steps<br />

in person, they should be completed by a person acting as an agent for the student.<br />

ACADEMIC PROBATION AND RETENTION STANDARDS<br />

A student who fails during any term to attain a cumulative quality point average at or<br />

above the level indicated below for the hours attempted (inclusive of any remedial or developmental<br />

courses) will be placed on academic probation for the following term.<br />

0-14 No minimum<br />

15-26 1.0<br />

27-40 1.4<br />

41-48 1.7<br />

49-56 1.9<br />

57-and above 2.0<br />

ACADEMIC SUSPENSION<br />

At the end of the following term of enrollment, a student on academic probation<br />

who has failed to attain: 1) the above cumulative standard OR 2) a 2.0 grade point average<br />

for the current term will be suspended. Students who have satisfied the 2.0 GPA<br />

but have not yet achieved the standards as listed above will remain on academic probation<br />

for subsequent terms until the standards have been achieved. Students on probation<br />

or suspension who fail to attain the cumulative standard and the 2.0 GPA for the<br />

subsequent term will be placed on suspension.<br />

Suspension terms are as follows:<br />

First time suspension One term (semester)<br />

Second suspension Two terms<br />

Third suspension Dismissal<br />

In all instances, the summer term does not apply as a term served for suspension.<br />

For the student who is suspended at the end of the spring semester, the following fall<br />

semester is considered to be the term of suspension.<br />

A third suspension of “Dismissal” may be appealed to the vice-president of<br />

Academic Services after a period of two years absence from enrollment at the college.<br />
