who are in either University Parallel Programs or Career Education Programs.<br />

For University Parallel Students (Associate of Science Degree and Associate of<br />

Arts Degree)<br />

For students seeking the A.S. and A.A. degrees, the general education university<br />

parallel core curriculum intends to stimulate students to acquire general knowledge in<br />

various academic disciplines, to gain the ability to effectively express themselves orally<br />

and in writing, and to prepare for advanced educational work through the acquisition<br />

of effective research, problem solving, and critical thinking skills.<br />

RSCC rpovides an informal intellectual environment which enables students to develop<br />

the following: familiarity with current research and problem-solving methods, a<br />

desire and ability for self-directed learning and effective expression, a capacity to synthesize<br />

knowledge from many sources, and an ability to critically examine new ideas<br />

and ways of thinking. For further information, refer to the University Parallel Program<br />

section on page 86.<br />

For Career Education Students (Associate of Applied Science Degree)<br />

For students seeking the A.A.S. degree, the career education curriculum includes a<br />

general educaiton core leading students to the achievement of a basic understanding of<br />

the humanities, arts, and social and natural sciences; the achievement of basic skill<br />

competencies in oral and written expressions; and an understanding of vocation a a part<br />

of the changing world culture and learning as a lifelong eneavor. For further information,<br />

refer to the Career Preparation Program section on page 126.<br />
