ASSOCIATE OF ARTS/ASSOCIATE OF SCIENCE PROGRAMS<br />

Students who desire to earn a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree at a<br />

four-year college or university may complete the first two years of study at <strong>Roane</strong> <strong>State</strong><br />

by enrolling in an Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degree program. The advantages<br />

of taking the first two years at <strong>Roane</strong> <strong>State</strong> include:<br />

• <strong>Roane</strong> <strong>State</strong>’s maintenance fees are among the lowest of any fees charged by<br />

Tennessee’s colleges and universities.<br />

• <strong>Roane</strong> <strong>State</strong>’s class enrollments are generally smaller which lends itself to more<br />

individualized instruction.<br />

• Obtaining an Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degree allows a student<br />

to have credentials for employment while completing his/her baccalaureate degree.<br />

<strong>Roane</strong> <strong>State</strong> has developed cooperative relationships with four-year institutions to<br />

assist students in transferring courses. Course-by-course transfer equivalency tables<br />

exist for the following schools:<br />

Articulation programs, also called 2+2 programs, exist between <strong>Roane</strong> <strong>State</strong>, East<br />

Tennessee <strong>State</strong> University, the University of Tennessee-Knoxville, Tennessee<br />

Technological University, Trevecca Nazarene University, Tusculum <strong>College</strong> and<br />

Lincoln Memorial University. <strong>Roane</strong> <strong>State</strong> students can follow an articulation program,<br />

obtain an Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degree and be granted admission<br />

into a specific program at the university, provided all GPA and entrance requirements<br />

are achieved. All articulation programs fulfill <strong>Roane</strong> <strong>State</strong>’s requirements for either an<br />

Associate of Arts or Associate of Science Degree. <strong>Roane</strong> <strong>State</strong> Associate of Arts and<br />

Associate of Science degrees do not constitute an articulation program.<br />
