graduation residency requirement. (See page 61)<br />

EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNOLOGY<br />

These programs are designed to qualify students to work as emergency medical<br />

technicians which could lead to national certification and state licensure.<br />

First Responder - Course Number: EMT 109 4 credits<br />

This course prepares the student for the First Responder <strong>State</strong> Licensure exam.<br />

The First Responder is often the first medically trained rescuer on the scene of an<br />

ill or injured patient. They provide the first link in the Emergency Medical Services<br />

system. They are employed as firemen, law enforcement agents, park rangers, rescue<br />

squad personnel, daycare workers, EMS and many other occupations.<br />

Admission requirements:<br />

1. Must meet all RSCC admission requirements.<br />

2. Submit a current Health Care Provider level CPR card or Professional Rescuer<br />

card.<br />

Emergency Medical Technician Basic I and II<br />

First Semester<br />

EMT 160 Basic I 8 credits<br />

Second Semester<br />

EMT 161 Basic II 7 credits<br />

This course prepares the student for the National Registry exam for EMTs. Upon<br />

successful completion of this exam the student will be eligible for <strong>State</strong> Licensure.<br />

Students having EMT licensure are able to work as part of an EMS team on Basic<br />

and Advanced ambulance units. They are employed in emergency rooms, law enforcement<br />

agencies, rescue squads, fire stations, health clubs, ski patrols, park rangers and<br />

other related fields.<br />

Admission requirements:<br />

1. Must meet all RSCC admission requirements.<br />

2. Must submit a regular high school diploma or equivalent. (NOTE: A special ed<br />

diploma or certificate of attendance WILL NOT meet this requirement.)<br />

Students must be 18 years old and have a high school diploma or GED to be eligible<br />

to take the <strong>State</strong> of Tennessee exam.<br />

3. Submit a current Health Care Provider level CPR card or Professional Rescuer<br />

card.<br />

Retention:<br />

1. A minimum grade of 80% in each of three areas, lecture, lab and clinical must<br />

be achieved to advance to the next semester.<br />

2. Maintain current licensure and current CPR-Health Care Provider.<br />

3. Maintain evidence of Professional Liability Insurance.<br />

The RSCC policy of Student Conduct and Disciplinary Sanctions applies to all students<br />

regardless of the program in which they are enrolled. In cases where alcohol and drug<br />

violations occur, disciplinary action, as well as the decision whether to test for alcohol<br />

or drugs, will be processed through the Dean of Health Sciences and the office of<br />

the Dean of Student Services and Multicultural Affairs.<br />
