ECED 2080—Language and Literacy in Early Childhood . . . . . . . . . . . . 3 Credits<br />
The research-based principles and practices for providing young children aged birth to nine a<br />
strong foundation in language and literacy within a developmentally appropriate approach.<br />
Field experiences required. (Prerequisites: ECED 2015, 2020 or department approval.)<br />
ECED 2085—Math and Science in Early Childhood . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 3 Credits<br />
A course on the standards, principles and practices in teaching mathematics and science to<br />
young children ages birth to nine. An emphasis will be placed on developing an integrated<br />
math and science curriculum that includes appropriate content, processes, environment and<br />
materials, and child-centered choices. Field experiences required. (Prerequisites: ECED 2015,<br />
2020 or department approval.)<br />
ECED 2090—Creative Development . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 3 Credits<br />
This course provides strategies for promoting creative development of the child ages birth to<br />
nine. Students will gain an understanding of the concept of creativity: what it is, why it is important,<br />
and how the development of creativity in young children can be encouraged. Emphasis<br />
is on the development of creativity in relation to art, music, language, movement and dramatic<br />
arts. Field experiences required.<br />
ECED 2100—The Mentoring Teacher. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 3 Credits<br />
A study of the philosophy, principles, and methods of mentoring adults who have varying levels<br />
of training. Emphasis will be on the role of mentors as facilitators of adult learning while<br />
simultaneously addressing the needs of children, parents and other staff. (Prerequisite: department<br />
approval.)<br />
ECED 2110—Advanced Learning Environments . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 3 Credits<br />
This course focuses on the skill, knowledge, and materials development that are necessary in<br />
the provision of a developmentally appropriate environment for young children ages birth to<br />
nine. Field experiences required.<br />
ECED 2120—Administration of Child Care Centers . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 3 Credits<br />
A study of organization and administration practices applicable to the child care center. Topics<br />
of special consideration will include leadership, enrollment and public relations, staff management,<br />
financial management, facilities, regulations, parent relations, and program development.<br />
Field experiences required.<br />
ECED 2130—Clinical Practicum I . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 2 Credits<br />
Supervised practicum with a minimum of 15 clock hours in seminar and 45 clock hours in early<br />
childhood practical experiences. Course includes a study of the physical and human qualities<br />
that combine to create an environment that is safe and healthy, and promotes optimum learning<br />
of young children ages birth to nine. (Prerequisite or corequisite: ECED 2010 or department<br />
approval.)<br />
ECED 2140—Clinical Practicum II. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 2 Credits<br />
Supervised clinical experience with a minimum of 15 clock hours in seminar and 45 clock<br />
hours in an approved Clinical Site (NAEYC, NAFCC or NSACA accredited agency or department<br />
approval site). Course includes emphasis on using reflective practice to examine<br />
components of quality, set goals, and design a plan for professional growth for the early childhood<br />
educator of children ages birth to nine. (Prerequisites: ECED 1010, 2010, 2015, 2040,<br />
2130 or department approval.)<br />
ECED 2150—Clinical Practicum III . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 2 Credits<br />
Supervised practicum experience with a minimum of 15 clock hours in seminar and 45 clock<br />
hours of approved early childhood practical experiences. This course focuses on the student’s<br />
demonstration of competencies that produce positive developmental outcomes for young children<br />
ages birth to nine. (Prerequisites: All required ECED courses or department approval.)<br />
