Therearetwoboardmeetingsayear,inwhichtheboarddiscussesanddecidesallmattersregardingthe<br />
operationoftheIMPRS.Thisincludestheadmissionofnewstudents,thedistributionoftheIMPRS<br />
resources(inparticulargrants),theseminarandlectureprogram,organizationofsummer/winterschools<br />
orotherIMPRSmeetings.<br />
Theexecutiveboard,consistingofProf.Rost,Prof.BüchnerandDr.Saalmann,meetsupondemand.<br />
Inparticularitpre-screensthenumerousapplications.Thedailycoordination,i.e.contacttostudents,<br />
applicationandadmissionprocedure,advertisements,organizationofthelecturesandseminarprogram<br />
andmaintenanceoftheweb-pageishandledatthe mpipks.<br />

Overthelast5yearsthescientificlandscapeinDresdenhasundergonesignificantdevelopment,not<br />
theleastthankstotheIMPRSregardingPhDtraining. Infact,wehavehadnumerousrequestsfrom<br />
colleaguestojoinourIMPRS.Partially,wehaveaccommodatedtheserequestsbutrefrainedfroma<br />
majorextensionofourIMPRS,sincewestronglybelievethatinordertomaintainthebenefitofan<br />
IMPRS,itsstudentsshouldhaveachancetoknoweachotherwhichlimitsinourexperiencethesizeof<br />
theschooltoabout50–70PhDstudentmembers.<br />
ThesedevelopmentsallowustofocustheresearchoftheIMPRSon“Modellinginthenaturalsciences—fromalgorithmstoapplications”byincludingnewcolleagueswhohaverecentlybeenappointed<br />
inDresden. Atthesametimeweincreasesignificantlythenumberofparticipatingdepartmentsfrom<br />
theTUDresden,byengineering,mathandcomputerscience.Theconcentrationontheoreticalresearch<br />
hasbeenplannedincoordinationwithourexperimentalcolleaguesfromIFWwhowillapplyforamainly<br />
