3.6.3 mpipksSchoolContactProgram PubliclecturewithProf.BeatePaulus(FUBerlin)forJuniorDoctors mpipksofferslecturingathighschoolsonapermanentbasis.Highschoolteachersreceiveupdatedlists ofavailablelecturetopicsoffered.Aboutfifteenlecturesaregivenannually. OurInstituteparticipatesintheprogramJuniorDoctorwithnumerouseventsforstudentsfrom3rd classonwards. Weprovideeachschoolyearabout6lecturesforpupilsinthiscontext. Theprogram JuniorDoctorisapartofthejointprojectNetzwerk“Dresden-StadtderWissenschaft”ofthescientific communityofDresden. 3.6.4 Dresden-JournalistinResidenceProgram The mpipkshasobtainedextrafundingforajournalist-in-residenceprogramforthreeyearswhichstarted in2008.TogetherwiththeothertwoMaxPlanckInstitutesinDresdenweawardathree-monthJournalist inResidencefellowshiptoascience-orientedfree-lancejournalisteachyear. Representativesfromall institutesandtheEditorinChiefofDresdnerNeuesteNachrichtenmeettoselectthefellowamongthe applicants.Successfulfellowsgetdetailedinsightsintoofthescientificresearchandevery-daylifeatthe institutes,canformfirst-handopinionsontheparticularsofthescientificlife,andconductindependent investigationswhichhelptoachievethelong-termgoalsofthefellow. Inreturnscientistsattheinstituteshaveachancetointeractcloselyandoveranextendedperiodwith ajournalist. Theylearnhowtheirworkcanbecommunicatedtothepublicandhowtointeractwith journalistsinthefirstplace. TheDresden-JournalistinResidencefellow2009wasMr.M.Anhäuser. Heisaprintjournalistwith ambitionstowardsnewformsofpublication,e.g.,intheinternet.Someofhisstudiesresultedinonline publicationsabouttheworkinexperimentallaboratories,gettingintothedetailsofsmartmaterials,and aboutthegeneralagendaofpublicsupportforscience. Mrs. SabineSütterlin,afreelancesciencejournalist,wastheDresden-JournalistinResidencefellow 2010.ShefocusedonascienceblogwhichreportondifferentstagesofherfieldstudiesinthethreeMax PlanckInstitutesinDresden,whereresearchersexplorecomplexsystems,molecularprocessesincellsand solidstatematerials.
