Covers ethical and moral problems related to employment,<br />

current issues in the industry, and career planning. See also<br />

mCom 460 advanced Production ............................................................3<br />

Students will perform a particular above-the-line function<br />

(producer, director, cinematographer, editor, sound designer,<br />

production designer) for an advanced production that will<br />

serve as a calling card / resume builder. Fee $100.<br />

mCom 461 Philosophy of Journalism .....................................................2<br />

A “capstone” class for journalism majors organized in a seminar<br />

style to examine press theory, social and cultural role of vari-<br />

ous types of journalism as well as technological trends and<br />

issues for modern journalism. Each student will be expected<br />

to develop a philosophy of journalism statement which<br />

integrates faith with craft.<br />

mCom 463 Public relations Campaigns & Cases................................2<br />

An examination of corporate and not-for-profit public rela-<br />

tions campaigns, cases, issues historically. An effort will be<br />

made to develop strategies for understanding their value to<br />

modern practitioners and developing an appreciation for the<br />

antecedents of modern standards and practices. Prerequisite:<br />

Advanced techniques in the art of editing, with special<br />

emphasis upon both seamless and experimental styles and<br />

emerging technologies. Prerequisites: 315, 452. Lab fee: $50.<br />

mCom 465 advanced Directing for TV & film .....................................3<br />

Film and television directors must master multiple disciplines<br />

while serving as a key creative decision-maker. This compre-<br />

hensive class deals with the artistic, human, financial, and<br />

technical aspects of directing. Prerequisite: 262. Lab fee: $40<br />

mCom 470 mass Communication seminar .......................................1-3<br />

A rotating variety of topics and production experiences often<br />

employing special guests from within the Journalism or<br />

Entertainment Industries. Possible topics include, but are not<br />

limited to, Investigative Reporting, Writing for Publication, PR<br />

Fund Raising, Event Planning, Visual Effects, Audio Record-<br />

ing, Cinematography, Production Design, the Sundance Film<br />

Festival, the City of the Angels Film Festival, the <strong>Biola</strong> Media<br />

Conference. May be taken multiple times. May involve lab<br />
