Comm 418 multi-Cultural issues in Communicative Disorders .....3<br />

Involves the assessment and intervention of students from<br />

multicultural backgrounds with speech and/or language<br />

difficulties. Attention paid to developing “cultural sensitivity”<br />

and an awareness of the cultural and bilingual influences on<br />

assessment and intervention decisions. The course is intended<br />

to prepare the student for effective and innovative work with<br />

clients from diverse populations. Prerequisite: 210.<br />

Comm 422 neurogenic Communication Disorders & Dysphagia 3<br />

Covers assessment and treatment of cognitive / commu-<br />

nication and swallowing disorders resulting from stroke,<br />

traumatic brain injury, degenerative diseases and other adult<br />

neurogenic disorders. Diagnoses include aphasia, apraxia,<br />

dysarthia, dementia and dysphagia. Prerequisite: 210, 318, 324<br />

or permission.<br />

Comm 429 Clinical Practicum: <strong>Biola</strong> speech / Language Clinic ....2<br />

Supervised experience working with persons with communi-<br />

cation disorders in the <strong>Biola</strong> Speech Clinic. Permission of the<br />

department must be secured the semester prior to enrolling<br />

for this course. May be repeated for a total of six units. Prereq-<br />

uisite: 210, 441, 442 and departmental consent. Students must<br />

have completed 25 hours of observation prior to clinic.<br />

Creation of original material for solo or corporate dramatic<br />

performance. Workshop for the presentation of created origi-<br />
