Comm 418 multi-Cultural issues in Communicative Disorders .....3
Involves the assessment and intervention of students from
multicultural backgrounds with speech and/or language
difficulties. Attention paid to developing “cultural sensitivity”
and an awareness of the cultural and bilingual influences on
assessment and intervention decisions. The course is intended
to prepare the student for effective and innovative work with
clients from diverse populations. Prerequisite: 210.
Comm 422 neurogenic Communication Disorders & Dysphagia 3
Covers assessment and treatment of cognitive / commu-
nication and swallowing disorders resulting from stroke,
traumatic brain injury, degenerative diseases and other adult
neurogenic disorders. Diagnoses include aphasia, apraxia,
dysarthia, dementia and dysphagia. Prerequisite: 210, 318, 324
or permission.

Supervised experience working with persons with communi-
cation disorders in the Biola Speech Clinic. Permission of the
department must be secured the semester prior to enrolling
for this course. May be repeated for a total of six units. Prereq-
uisite: 210, 441, 442 and departmental consent. Students must
have completed 25 hours of observation prior to clinic.
