Graduation Requirements<br />

a. Satisfactorily complete 58 semester units as outlined<br />

in the curriculum.<br />

b. At least 24 units must be taken at this institution.<br />

C. Obtain a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale with no grade below “B” in all<br />

courses to be credited toward graduation.<br />

d. Complete the entire program in no more than six years.<br />

e. Students who are placed on probation after the first 15 credits,<br />

are granted one semester in which to bring their academic<br />

work up to the required level for continuance in the program.<br />

A student cannot graduate while on probation.<br />

f. Successfully pass a comprehensive examination over course-<br />

work.<br />

G. Students who are not proficient in a second language will be<br />

required to take ISAL 520 or 655. Proficiency standards for a<br />

second language will be determined by the program director<br />

in consultation with the faculty. The standards are given in the<br />

student handbook.<br />

The Master of Arts in Missions curriculum includes courses in: 1) core<br />

curriculum, 19 units, 2) Bible / Theology, 21 units 3) electives, 18 units.<br />

Electives in Intercultural Studies / Missiology (18 units)<br />

Each student will select intercultural studies / missiology courses as<br />

electives under the supervision of the program director. These may<br />

be designed to form an emphasis or specialization.<br />

Summer Institute of Linguistics<br />

In cooperation with the Summer Institute of Linguistics <strong>Biola</strong> offers<br />

a number of linguistics courses which can provide a concentration<br />

for students planning for mission work in language analysis / Bible<br />

translation. This 21–unit program combines five linguistics courses<br />

(ISAL 520 or 646, 521, 523 or 622, 525 or 624, 654) and two anthropology<br />

courses (ISCL 520, 640) (For full details on these courses see the<br />

course descriptions in the Intercultural Studies and TESOL & Applied<br />

Linguistics sections of this catalog.)<br />
