Mayor, 1644. Sir Robert Harley, Master of the Mint for many<br />

years, having refused to stamp any of the proposed coins for the<br />

Comm<strong>on</strong>wealth, except with the King's head as formerly, he was<br />

dismissed from that office. On the subject being referred to the<br />

Council of State, the members str<strong>on</strong>gly recommended Sir John Wollast<strong>on</strong><br />

as a fit and proper pers<strong>on</strong> for Master Worker of the Mint for<br />

1648-9, but notwithstanding this repeated recommendati<strong>on</strong>, the
