Sect. 8. This further provides that <strong>gold</strong> vessels or <strong>plate</strong> of the<br />

new standard should be assayed and marked under the same regulati<strong>on</strong>s<br />

as applied to the higher standard.<br />

Repealed in part.<br />

A.D. 1803. 43 George III, c. 69. The former Act of 24 George<br />

III, c. 53, as regards the licence, was repealed, and new licences appointed,<br />

viz. -For trading in <strong>gold</strong> more than two pennyweights and<br />

under two ounces in weight, and in <strong>silver</strong> over five pennyweights and<br />

under thirty ounces in weight, 2 6s. per annum ; for trading in <strong>gold</strong><br />

of two ounces in weight and upwards, and in <strong>silver</strong> of thirty ounces<br />

and upwards, ^ 15s. per annum. REPEALED.<br />

DRAWBACK ON PLATE.<br />

A.D. 1803. 44 George III, c. 98. Schedule referred to in Sect.<br />

2 of this Act. Drawback for or in respect of <strong>gold</strong> <strong>plate</strong> and <strong>silver</strong><br />

<strong>plate</strong>, wrought or manufactured in Great Britain, which shall be<br />

duly exported by way of merchandise to Ireland or any foreign<br />

parts, the whole duties which shall have been paid for the same.<br />

The duty was increased, <strong>on</strong> <strong>gold</strong> to sixteen shillings per ounce, and<br />

<strong>on</strong> <strong>silver</strong> to <strong>on</strong>e shilling and threepence per ounce. REPEALED.<br />

A.D. 1812. 52 George III, c. 59. This Act was passed to allow,<br />

<strong>on</strong> the exportati<strong>on</strong> of manufactured <strong>plate</strong>, for the private use of pers<strong>on</strong>s<br />

residing abroad, the same drawback as was then allowed <strong>on</strong> the<br />

exportati<strong>on</strong> of such <strong>plate</strong> by way of merchandise.<br />

A.D. 1815. 55 George III, c. 185. By this Act the duties were<br />

raised, <strong>on</strong> manufactured <strong>gold</strong> to seventeen shillings per ounce, <strong>on</strong><br />

manufactured <strong>silver</strong> to eighteenpence per ounce, subject to certain<br />

excepti<strong>on</strong>s.<br />

Sect. 7. Makes the counterfeiting of the King's head duty mark<br />

a fel<strong>on</strong>y, punishable by death.<br />

This duty is paid to the assay officers at the time of handing<br />

the articles for assay, but if they are cut at the <str<strong>on</strong>g>Hall</str<strong>on</strong>g> and sent back as<br />

being worse than standard, the duty is returned with the articles.<br />

Repealed.<br />

A.D. 1820. I George IV, c. 14. An Act to repeal the drawback<br />

<strong>on</strong> certain <strong>gold</strong> articles exported.<br />

A.D. 1824. 5 George IV, c. 52 (Local and Pers<strong>on</strong>al Act). This<br />

Act authorised the Birmingham Assay Office to assay and stamp<br />

<strong>gold</strong>, as well as <strong>silver</strong> ware, the <str<strong>on</strong>g>marks</str<strong>on</strong>g> being the same as those used<br />

in L<strong>on</strong>d<strong>on</strong>, except that the anchor is substituted for the leopard's<br />

head. This Act c<strong>on</strong>tained a number of provisi<strong>on</strong>s as to the management<br />

of the Birmingham Assay Office.<br />

FOREIGN PLATE TO BE ASSAYED AND STAMPED.<br />

A.D. 1842. 5 and 6 ViCT., c. 47, Sect. 59. "And be it enacted,<br />

That all Gold and Silver <strong>plate</strong>, not being battered, which shall be<br />

imported from Foreign Parts after the Commencement of this Act,<br />

and sold, exchanged or exposed to Sale, within the United Kingdom
