Storr and Mortimer, succeeded by<br />

Hunt and Roskell. These<br />

well-known <strong>gold</strong>smiths and jewellers of B<strong>on</strong>d Street have received<br />

the share of Royal and aristocratic patr<strong>on</strong>age they so well deserved,<br />

and still retain the distincti<strong>on</strong> of being <strong>on</strong>e of the leading firms in<br />

the metropolis. Their origin may be said to have commenced witli<br />

the celebrated <strong>plate</strong>-worker, Paul Storr, partner in the manufacturing<br />

department of Messrs. Rundell and Bridge from 1792 down to 1820.<br />

He first entered his name at Goldsmiths' <str<strong>on</strong>g>Hall</str<strong>on</strong>g> in 1792, then living<br />

in Church Street, Soho. In 1796 he removed to Air Street, Picca-<br />

dilly, and in 1807 to Dean Street, Soho In Kent's Directory for<br />

1 8 19 he was still located there, styled "Storr and Co."<br />

In 1 82 1 Mr. Paul Storr went into partnership with Mr. John<br />

Mortimer (who had been established for many years in partnership<br />

with Mr. Gray), the firm being styled " Storr and Mortimer," with<br />

which Mr. John Samuel Hunt, Mr. Storr's nephew, was subsequently<br />

associated.<br />

On the retirement of Mr. Storr, in 1839, the firm was John Mortimer<br />

and John Samuel Hunt, with his s<strong>on</strong>, John Hunt, as junior<br />

partner styled " Mortimer and Hunt."<br />

Mr. Mortimer retired in 1842, when John Samuel Hunt, and his<br />

s<strong>on</strong>, John Hunt, entered into partnership with Mr. Robert Roskell,<br />

the firm being styled " Hunt and Roskell," which title is still re-<br />

tained.. Mr. John Samuel Hunt died in 1865, and Mr. John Hunt in<br />

1879. It is now c<strong>on</strong>ducted by the surviving partners, Robert Ros-<br />

kell, his s<strong>on</strong>, Allan Roskell, and the s<strong>on</strong> of John Hunt, viz., John<br />

Mortimer Hunt.<br />
