roses and lilies. The initials I M^'L<br />

are found as a maker <strong>on</strong> the Glasgow<br />

rat's tail. On back of spo<strong>on</strong> are<br />

four <str<strong>on</strong>g>marks</str<strong>on</strong>g>: (i) maker's unknown;<br />

(2) castle; (3) deac<strong>on</strong>'s mark; (4)<br />

date-letter U. Date 1749. Earl of<br />

The date-letter is the old English<br />

C of 1757, showing that the thistle<br />

was used in this year, as before<br />

stated. Maker unknown. Date<br />
