Warke, Paltert<strong>on</strong>, John Waberley, Thomas Metcalfe, John Daniel,<br />

Robert Reynes and Robert Wygge.<br />

1557- William Walker, <strong>gold</strong>smith, bequeathed to the Goldsmiths'<br />

Company, for charities, the sum of i^ioo in m<strong>on</strong>ey.<br />

1558- Affabel Partridge was the principal <strong>gold</strong>smith to Queen<br />

Elizabeth, who ordered payments to be made as follow : "To Robert<br />

Branden and Affabel Partridge, for 3,098 oz. of gilt <strong>plate</strong>, at<br />

7s. 6d. the oz., which was given away in New Year's gifts,<br />

1,161 17s. 9fd.," etc.<br />

1559. John Wheeler. We find by the books of the Goldsmiths'<br />

Company that he was established in that craft in Chepe.<br />

The earliest date in which his name occurs is in is 59 (sec<strong>on</strong>d Eliza-<br />

beth).<br />

His s<strong>on</strong> John removed to Fleet Street at the decease of his<br />

father, where he carried <strong>on</strong> his trade. He died about the year 1600,<br />

and was succeeded by his s<strong>on</strong>, William Wheeler, who took the premises<br />

called the "<br />

Mary<strong>gold</strong>," after they were vacated by Richard<br />

Crompt<strong>on</strong>, who kept an ordinary there, in the reign of James I.<br />

W. Wheeler was Comptroller of the Mint in 1627 and 1639.
