HALL MARKS ON PLATE.<br />

The Act of 17 and 18 Vict, 1854, legalising<br />

the lower standards<br />

of 15, 12 and 9 karats, however, applies to Scotland.<br />

The Act of 30 & 31 Vict., 1867, stating that, in additi<strong>on</strong> to the<br />

usual hall <str<strong>on</strong>g>marks</str<strong>on</strong>g>, the letter F shall be stamped <strong>on</strong> foreign <strong>plate</strong>, as<br />

well as the secti<strong>on</strong>s relating to licenses also extends to Scotland.<br />

Total of Marks now required to be stamped <strong>on</strong> <strong>gold</strong> and<br />

<strong>silver</strong> <strong>plate</strong> in Scotland :<br />

GOLD.<br />

1. Quality in karats (22 or 18).<br />

2. The thistle for Edinburgh or the li<strong>on</strong> rampant<br />

Standard for Glasgow.<br />

Gold. < 3. Mark of the assay town, castle, or tree, fi.sh, and<br />

(5 <str<strong>on</strong>g>marks</str<strong>on</strong>g>.) bell.<br />
