HALL MARKS ON PLATE.<br />

A <strong>silver</strong> mace-head of the Company of St. George, in form of<br />

a capital of a column, enriched with acanthus leaves, and sur-<br />

mounted by a statuette of St. George and the Drag<strong>on</strong>. Round the<br />

collar has been engraved, but now partly obliterated by the inserti<strong>on</strong><br />

of four sockets, the :<br />

"Ex D<strong>on</strong>o Hororabil : Fraternitatis S^K Georgij in Norwico<br />

A.n>i Do' 1705."<br />

On the top is engraved the shield of St. George and the fol-<br />

"DIE III. AIAEII, AIDCCLXXXVI. BENE ET FELICITER MVNICIPIO<br />

NORVICENSI OMNIA VT EVENIANT PRECATVR ROBERTVS<br />

PARTRIDGE PRAETER."<br />

The Walpole mace, presented in ^^'^^s 1733, assayed and stamped<br />

in L<strong>on</strong>d<strong>on</strong>.<br />

A finely ornamented repousse ewer and salver, with Neptune<br />

and Amphitrite, "The gift of the H<strong>on</strong>. Henry Howard, June 16,<br />

1663," was stamped in L<strong>on</strong>d<strong>on</strong> in 1597. A tall gilt tankard, repousse<br />

with strap-work, flowers and fruit, and engraved with the arms of<br />

Norwich, was stamped in L<strong>on</strong>d<strong>on</strong> in 161 8.<br />

EXAMPLES.<br />

A chalice dated 1567, stamped with the letter C and a crossmound<br />

within a lozenge. North Creake Church, Norfolk.<br />
