aucti<strong>on</strong>. He was at last a pensi<strong>on</strong>er at the Charterhouse, and died<br />

there about the year 1 849.<br />

1806. Feter Perchard bequeathed to the Company ^^^250 stock<br />

for the use of the poor.<br />

1808. George <str<strong>on</strong>g>Hall</str<strong>on</strong>g>, probably a <strong>gold</strong>smith, but we cannot trace<br />

his name in the books, bequeathed to the Company a munificent<br />

d<strong>on</strong>ati<strong>on</strong> of 1,000 (c<strong>on</strong>sols) for charitable purposes.<br />

1 813. Rachel Farmer, of Jewin Street, bequeathed to the Goldsmiths'<br />

Company the liberal d<strong>on</strong>ati<strong>on</strong> of i^ 1,000 stock for charitable<br />

purposes.<br />

Messrs. Hancock, <strong>gold</strong>smiths and jewellers, B<strong>on</strong>d Street (corner<br />

of Brut<strong>on</strong> Street). Established in 1849 by C. F. Hancock, who<br />

having partly retired in 1866, the firm was styled Hancock, S<strong>on</strong> and<br />

Co. Mr. Hancock retired entirely in 1870, the style being Hancocks<br />

and Co., at present. The actual partners were Messrs. Maxtin Hancock,<br />

Horatio Stewart and Henry John Dore. The mark adopted<br />

by them as a <strong>plate</strong>-mark c<strong>on</strong>sists of the letters C F H with a crown<br />

above. The manufactory is in Little Brut<strong>on</strong> Street.<br />

This well-known firm was established for the manufacture and<br />

sale of <strong>plate</strong> and jewellery of a superior class, and is extensively<br />

patr<strong>on</strong>ised by the nobility and gentry, being noted for the taste and<br />

quality of its producti<strong>on</strong>s. Artists of celebrity are engaged as<br />

modellers of groups and designs for surtouts de table and the dres-<br />

soir, presentati<strong>on</strong> pieces, racing prizes for Epsom and Ascot, etc.<br />

Am<strong>on</strong>g the modellers may be noted especially H. H. Armstead,<br />

R.A. ; C. B. Birch, A.R. A. ; Signer Raffaele M<strong>on</strong>ti ; Eugene Lauri and<br />

Marshall Wood.
