2.2. Recognition of Valeo’s innovation
The Group’s potential for technological innovation continued
to benefit from wide recognition among market players.

Valeo Raytheon Systems (VRS), a joint venture between Valeo
and Raytheon, won a 2007 PACE Award in the Product Innovation
category for its Blind Spot Detection system. The award, which
is co-sponsored by Automotive News, Microsoft, SAP and the
Transportation Research Center, was presented to Valeo at the
Society of Automotive Engineers World Congress in Detroit. This
is the third PACE award for Valeo: the StARS micro-hybrid system
won a PACE Award in 2006, and the LaneVue lane departure
warning system in 2005.
The German Automobile Association (ADAC) gave Volkswagen
second prize in the Innovation category of the Gelber Angel Award
for the Park4UTM system on the German automaker’s Touran, Cross
Touran and Tiguan models.
In October 2007, Valeo received first prize for innovation in the
Methods and Processes category of the 2007 Best Innovator
prize awarded by the firm of strategic consultants, AT Kearney,
in partnership with Les Echos. The Best Innovator prize rewards
best practice in terms of innovation management among 700
European companies with sales of more than 300 million euros.

Key events in 2007
At the International Awards for Automotive Innovation at the
Equip’Auto trade fair, Valeo won the gold trophy for the e-Valve
system in the Engineering and advanced technology category and
the silver trophy for Guideo, the driving assistance system, in the
Spares and Post-Equipment category. eXponentia, the technical
training program partnered by Valeo, received the gold trophy in
the Services category.
Valeo is the driver of the Lo CO Motion project, a 211.6 million euro

program over the 2007-2011 period supporting the co-development
of e-Valve technology and micro-hybrid with regenerative braking
technology funded by the Industrial Innovation agency to the tune
of 61 million euros.

The policy of forming partnerships with the best specialists in each
sector in order to speed up the introduction of new technologies
in automobiles continued, as in previous years, with Raytheon,
the radar expert, Iteris for lane departure warning systems and
IBM for on-board software.
Valeo continued its partnership with the French rally racer
Luc Alphand, for the All-Terrain Rally World Cup and the Le Mans
Endurance Series. This partnership is designed to promote Valeo’s
image and technology. Valeo has developed lighting, wiping and
air-conditioning systems for the racing and assistance vehicles in
the Mitsubishi Motor Sports and Luc Alphand Aventures Teams.
2007 saw a second place in the off-road rally at Dakar, a victory in
the Por Las Pampas Rally in Argentina and medals in the Le Mans
Endurance Series.
