certified sites
The percentage of ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 certified sites
took a leap forward in 2007. The proportion of OHSAS 18001
certified sites rose to 74% by the end of 2007, from 52% at
the end of 2006.
Ongoing employee training, an integral part of the Valeo
management system, helps to change mindsets on environmental
matters at work and home.
Safety awareness days were held in 2007, covering all Product
Families and all countries, with one or two sessions per country.

Environmental management and performance
The total number of hours of environmental training has fallen
steadily over the last three years, with the growing maturity of
ISO 14001 management systems and the growing emphasis
on training in occupational health and safety.
Ensuring the safety of operations and equipment
Valeo has always sought to afford the highest possible levels of
protection for its sites against natural disasters and technological
risks:

most of Valeo’s sites are classified HPR (Highly Protected Risk)
and have an automatic sprinkler system to protect against fire, as
well as teams trained to deal with all kinds of risk situations;
all sites in seismic risk zones have been built or renovated in
compliance with the most recent seismic regulations;
Valeo sites are located in areas not liable to flooding or are
equipped with systems for protecting against flood risks;
new Valeo sites are located far from sites posing potentially
significant risk (Seveso sites, etc.), which could have a domino
effect and endanger Valeo sites;
the Valeo Risk Management Manual contains a specific directive
on the prevention of emergency situations and on situationspecific
contingency plans. This directive requires each site to
implement an emergency plan with a view to preventing
potential incidents;
in 2007, Valeo completed work on its VERM (Valeo Emergency
and Recovery Management) tool for support in designing and
implementing emergency and crisis management plans, as well
as procedures for restarting equipment. Due to be rolled out to
all sites in 2008, this tool will ensure that all emergency plans
share a common structure and content, as well as encouraging
employee involvement and ensuring that the plans are rapidly
implemented;
Valeo pushed ahead with site security developments in 2007
(access control, CCTV, detection, physical and electronic penetration
tests), to assess and then improve the effectiveness of its security
systems.

regulations and with Valeo standards

Valeo’s risk management policy is set out in the Group’s Risk
Management Manual, and in Group-wide application guidelines.
The related procedures are focused on ensuring that operations
comply with Group standards and the regulations in force in each
country.
