On the sidewalk, the long shadows are gone, but the chill
wind remains.
Except for a few foraging pigeons, their thought-filled noggins
bobbling, Roy stands alone.
A tumbleweed tumbles weedily.
A vulture kvetches.
It stands to reason there are other music stores he could
try. But they are mostly all remote and upscale and, to tell the
truth, after this most recent experience, Roy is disheartened and
drained of enthusiasm.
Enormous wings flap as the vulture ventures off elsewhere.
There is, of course, one person who could solve the mystery
like that.
The guy in 28/RR.
In fact, he could solve quite a few mysteries.
Like the one about his cool Cowboys and Indians towels and,
like the one about what the double Rs means on his door.
Not to mention the one about if he liked the lasagna or not.
A pigeon, lost in thought, waddles across Roy’s left shoe.
The only reason he hadn’t gone there to start with was fear.
But, if this day has taught him nothing else, it has taught him he
has nothing left to fear.
Except Rick the Asshole.
After the way he’s been yelled at and thrown around, what
could the guy in 28/RR do?
Roy awakens his napping headphones and returns their foam
cushions to his cold ears.
Then he turns and starts to walk whence he came, all the way
to Georgetown, kicking at pigeons along his very own Trail of
Tears.
