Section 8: Personnel Guidelines Regarding Professional Duty Absence And Retirement/Resignation<br />

8.1 Employee Absences<br />

I. Professional trips and other absences for which a Form 910 is required must be approved<br />

according to the following guidelines:<br />

A. All building level personnel must have approval by the building principal with final approval<br />

from the appropriate Assistant Superintendent, Learning Network , Chiefs, and the<br />

Superintendent for an out-of-country trip. Forms must be submitted at least seven (7) days<br />

prior to the absence. In cases where money is requested, forms must be submitted twenty-one<br />

(21) days prior to the absence.<br />

B. Personnel who are not assigned at the building level must have signed approval by the<br />

Director of their department.<br />

C. Counselors, assistant principals, principals, and above must have the approval of their<br />

appropriate Learning Network Director, Chief of Leadership, Learning, and Student Support<br />

Services, Assistant Superintendent for Learning Networks and the Deputy Superintendent for<br />

Leadership, Learning, and Student Support.<br />

II. Absence from Duty Report, TSSI 611, must be signed by the principal or immediate<br />

administrative supervisor. TSSI 611 for principals must be signed by the appropriate Assistant<br />

Superintendent, Learning Network .<br />

III. Requests for absence for any reason not covered (see DEC [Local]) by policy must be submitted<br />

on Form 910 to the Superintendent or his designee for approval prior to the absence.<br />

8.2 Teachers Leaving the Campus/Length of Workday<br />

I. Each teacher actively engaged in the instruction and supervision of students is entitled to<br />

at least a thirty (30) minute lunch period free from all duties and responsibilities<br />

connected with the instruction and supervision of students. Teachers may leave the<br />

campus during this lunch period only after signing out in the principal’s office and<br />

signing in upon returning to the building. A teacher returning late to the building is<br />

subject to docking of one-fifth (1/5) of a day’s pay.<br />

II. Teachers should be on duty twenty (20) minutes before the bell which admits students to<br />

the building and remain on duty for ten (10) minutes after the final student dismissal bell.<br />

Reasonable accommodations for attending students’ needs should be made before and/or<br />

after official duty hours.<br />

III. Teachers will be available for staff meetings before and/or after official duty hours as<br />

necessary to maintain and enhance effectiveness in meeting students’ needs.<br />

IV. Summer hours for school building level personnel will be 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. daily<br />

unless otherwise approved by the Superintendent. (See DK)<br />
