4. A student who has attended a special interest high school program or a program of choice for more<br />
than two years, shall be eligible for the honors of valedictorian or salutatorian only at that school.<br />
d. Breaking Ties<br />
In case of a tie in either the weighted GPAs or the weighted numerical grade averages, after<br />
calculation to the thousandths place, the District shall recognize all students involved in the tie as<br />
sharing the honor and title.<br />
e. Latin Honors<br />
Local class rank Latin honors at each District high school shall be as follows:<br />
1. Summa Cum Laude The top highest two percent of the graduating class.<br />
2. Magna Cum Laude The next highest three percent of the graduating class.<br />
3. Cum Laude The next highest five percent of the graduating class.<br />
V. Classification of High School Students<br />
The classification of high school students is determined on the basis of state credits earned (EIE<br />
LOCAL).<br />
By state law TEC 28.025(b) all students entering high school are to be enrolled in courses necessary<br />
to complete the curriculum requirements identified by the State Board of Education for the<br />
Recommended or Distinguished Achievement Graduation Program which requires 26 state credits.<br />
Based on this state credit requirement, all students in conjunction with parents and counselors are to<br />
develop an academic learning plan that will appropriately place the student’s academic career to<br />
graduate on time.<br />
Entering freshman and out-of-district transfer students will be assigned a grade level based on the<br />
following credit classification<br />
Grade Level Classification<br />
RHSP 9 – Freshman<br />
and DAP 10 – Sophomore<br />
11 – Junior<br />
12 – Senior<br />
MSHP 12 - Senior<br />
only<br />
22 credits required for MSHP graduation<br />
Grade Classifications<br />
RSHP and DAP require 26 credits for Graduation<br />
