10.1 Vandalism/Theft<br />
Section 10: ABUSE OR THEFT OF SCHOOL PROPERTY<br />
I. Vandalism/Theft Over $50, Illegal Entry<br />
A. In the event of vandalism, theft, or illegal entry, the principal or designee shall notify each of the<br />
following immediately:<br />
1. The <strong>Fort</strong> <strong>Worth</strong> Police Department;<br />
2. The Safety and Security Department, who will notify the school-police liaison team;<br />
3. The Internal Audit Department;<br />
4. The Office of Professional Standards when an employee is suspected of being involved;<br />
5. The Maintenance Department, who will conduct an inspection and submit a damage repair cost<br />
estimate to the principal. The principal shall then establish the dollar amount to be assessed and<br />
shall report that amount, in writing, to Safety and Security for the collection of restitution; and,<br />
6. The District Budget Office<br />
(Fax Form 920 and a copy of the Police report to the Budget office at 817.814.2145 and to Safety &<br />
Security at 817.814.2695.)<br />
B. If acts of vandalism, theft, or illegal entry within a school building are discovered after hours by school<br />
security, the following must be notified as soon as possible by security personnel:<br />
1. The <strong>Fort</strong> <strong>Worth</strong> Police Department;<br />
2. The School Principal (follow procedures in Section A); and,<br />
3. The Maintenance and Operations Area Director.<br />
C. If acts of vandalism, theft, or illegal entry cannot be reported to the principal or to school security, the<br />
reporting person should notify the <strong>Fort</strong> <strong>Worth</strong> Police Department as soon as possible.<br />
D. Acts of vandalism, theft, or illegal entry occurring on property other than a school building (buses,<br />
athletic complex, etc.) shall be reported to the appropriate district administrator. The administrator shall<br />
follow procedures in section A.<br />
II. Vandalism/Theft Under $50, No Illegal Entry<br />
A. Maintenance Department personnel shall conduct an inspection and submit a damage repair<br />
cost estimate to the principal. The principal shall then establish the dollar amount to be<br />
assessed and collect restitution for damages.<br />
B. A report, Form 920, shall be filed with the Budget Office. The amount of restitution assessed<br />
should be indicated on this form. The principal may take disciplinary action as deemed<br />
appropriate.<br />
