B. Non-school instruction such as private lessons;<br />

C. Truancy; or,<br />

D. Ski trips and vacations, except for unusual travel opportunities considered on an individual<br />

basis by the principal. Examples of unusual travel opportunities may include a trip to an area<br />

or country of historical significance, such as a trip to Washington D.C. with visits to the<br />

Capitol and the Smithsonian, etc.<br />

VI. Warning Notice<br />

Education Code TEC § 25.095 requires that all parents be notified of state attendance laws at the<br />

beginning of each year.<br />

A. The school will request a warning letter from the office of attendance control to be sent to the<br />

parent/guardian on the 3 rd excused absence.<br />

B. The school will file a request for court action on the 10 th unexcused absence within a six<br />

month period.<br />

C. Once a school requests court action be taken by the Office of Attendance Control, no changes<br />

can be made to alter the status of that student’s attendance profile.<br />

VII. Make-up Work<br />

A. To make up work for excused or unexcused absences, the student shall be provided no less<br />

than one (1) day for each day absent.<br />

B. Students shall receive credit for satisfactory make-up work after an unexcused absence. See<br />

EIAB (LOCAL).<br />

2.17 Minimum Attendance for Class Credit - FEC (LOCAL)<br />

2.17.I Notice of Credit Loss<br />

A. A student and the student’s parent or guardian shall be given written notice prior to and at such<br />

time when a student’s attendance in any class drops below 90 percent of the days the class is<br />

offered.<br />

B. When a student’s attendance drops below 90 percent but remains at least at 75 percent of the<br />

days the class is offered, the student may earn credit for the class by completing a plan<br />

approved by the principal. This plan must provide for the student to meet instructional<br />

requirements of the class as determined by the principal.<br />

C. If the student fails to successfully complete the plan, or when a student’s attendance drops<br />

below 75 percent of the days the class is offered, the student, parent, or representative may<br />

request award of credit by submitting a written petition to the appropriate attendance<br />

committee by submitting the appropriate form to the principal.<br />
