Commercial caterers may be permitted to serve school groups using school facilities if prior<br />

approval is received from the Chief of District Operations. The caterer will not use the school<br />

kitchen to prepare the food. The caterer will provide liability insurance in amounts as determined<br />

by the Division of Business and Finance.<br />

All requests for the use of the cafeteria shall be made to the Director of Nutrition Services at least<br />

48 hours in advance of use.<br />

III. Special Note about Elections<br />

State law requires the District to provide election space to any taxing entity that requests it. While<br />

the District is required to provide the space, the principal of the campus is allowed to designate the<br />

areas where the election is to be held. The custodian may be required to open the building early for<br />

elections on school days, but no additional custodial staff should be required for these elections;<br />

i.e., on a regular business day there should be no custodial overtime incurred for elections.<br />

IV. Prohibited Activities and Required Conduct<br />

No meeting or activity shall be permitted in a school building or on school grounds that is in any<br />

way contrary to the purpose of the District. Doctrines or theories that are subversive to the<br />

Constitution or laws of the State of Texas or of the United States of America shall not be<br />

advanced. Social or political change by violence shall not be advanced. Private, profit-making<br />

enterprises shall not be promoted. Lectures, musical comedies, theatrical productions, or any other<br />

assemblies that are, in the judgment of the Superintendent or designee, of a questionable nature<br />

shall not be permitted.<br />

Organizations using school facilities shall:<br />

A. Conduct their business in an orderly manner.<br />

B. Abide by all laws and policies, including but not limited to those prohibiting the use, sale, or<br />

possession of alcoholic beverages, illegal drugs, firearms, and the use of tobacco products on<br />

school property.<br />

C. Make no alteration, temporary or permanent, to school property without prior written consent<br />

from the Superintendent.<br />

6.9 Operation of Vending Machines<br />

Elementary Schools<br />

Vending machines shall not be authorized in elementary schools in the District except in<br />

teachers’ lounges or workrooms. All products shall be restricted to and consumed in the staff<br />

lounges and may not be used by students. Sports drinks are not allowed for sale anywhere on<br />

campus during the school day.<br />

Secondary Schools<br />
