Section 1:Responsibilities Prior to the Opening Of School<br />

1.1 Registration of Students New to the Schools<br />

High Schools - Beginning Tuesday, July 31, <strong>2012</strong>, all high school principals (or their designee) should be<br />

in their buildings from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. to register students new to the school and to assist patrons.<br />

Students new to FW<strong>ISD</strong> will complete the Home Language Survey (HLS) in the forms section, and<br />

students with a language other than English should be sent to the Student Placement Center before<br />

beginning the registration process.<br />

Middle Schools – Beginning Tuesday, July 31, <strong>2012</strong>, all middle school principals (or their designee)<br />

should be in their buildings from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. to register students new to the school and to assist<br />

patrons.<br />

Parents of students new to FW<strong>ISD</strong> will complete a HLS, and students with a language other than English<br />

should be sent to the Student Placement Center before beginning the registration process.<br />

Elementary Schools – Beginning Tuesday, July 31, <strong>2012</strong>, all elementary school principals (or their<br />

designee) should be in their buildings from 8:00 a.m. until noon to register students new to the school and<br />

to assist patrons.<br />

Parents of students new to FW<strong>ISD</strong> will complete a HLS, and students with a language other than English<br />

should be sent to the Student Placement center before beginning the registration process.<br />

Note: All new students should be given the HLS and Occupational Program Survey in the forms<br />

section upon registration.<br />

1.2 Inspection of Buildings, Inventories and Supplies<br />

To assure complete readiness for the opening of schools, the principal should inspect the buildings and<br />

grounds, removing any safety hazards. Campus Evacuation Route maps and tornado safety information<br />

should be displayed in individual classrooms and other occupied areas so that everyone may read and<br />

understand them. Campus administration is responsible for developing and posting signs inside the<br />

school facility. The Emergency Preparedness Office is available for consultation at ext. 42673. An<br />

adequate supply of textbooks, instructional supplies, and school record forms should be on hand. A<br />

newly assigned principal should check all inventories and reports left by his/her predecessor.<br />

1.3 When Flags Are to be Flown<br />

The United States and Texas flags are flown daily, weather permitting, on the school flagpole. The flags<br />

should be raised at the beginning of each school day and lowered at the close of the school day. Each<br />

school principal is responsible for securing and training reliable individuals to perform this service for the<br />

school. If the state flag is displayed on a flagpole or flagstaff, the white strip should be at the top of the<br />
