IV. Special Appearances (State, National, or International) If a school music group is invited to make a special appearance at a meeting of state, national, or international interest (i.e., Cotton Bowl Parade, Rose Bowl Parade, Mobile Jazz Festival, European Tour), each such invitation shall be considered first by the principal and the director of the music organization, the director for choral or the director for instrumental music, and the assistant superintendent of the attending school’s Learning Networks. A written request for permission to accept the invitation is then made by the principal to the assistant superintendent attending school’s Learning Networks and the chief of Leadership, Learning, and Student Support Services. This request should be made as soon as possible after the invitation is received. V. Eligibility is the responsibility of the teacher and the principal. FM (LEGAL) needs to be followed in determining eligibility. A. Suspension from Extracurricular Activities: A student will be suspended from participation in any extracurricular activity sponsored or sanctioned by the District or UIL after a grade evaluation period in which the student received a grade lower than the equivalent of 70 on a scale of 100 in any academic class other than an identified honors, advanced classes or dual credit courses. A suspension continues for at least three (3) weeks and is not removed during the year until the conditions of REINSTATEMENT described below are met. Education Code 33.081(c) defines ―Grade Evaluation Period‖ as: The six-week grade reporting period; or The first six (6) weeks of a semester and each grade reporting period thereafter, in the case of a district with a grade reporting period longer than six (6) weeks. The FWISD Athletic Department prepares an academic eligibility calendar from the FWISD school calendar. B. Extracurricular Activity as Defined in Policy FM(LEGAL): An extracurricular activity is an activity sponsored by the UIL, the Board, or an organization sanctioned by Board resolution. The activity is not necessarily directly related to instruction of the essential knowledge and skills but may have an indirect relation to some areas of the curriculum. Extracurricular activities include, but are not limited to: Public performances, contests, demonstrations, displays, and club activities. In addition an activity is subject to this policy only if one (1) of the following applies: 1. The activity is competitive; 2. The activity is held in conjunction with another activity that is considered extracurricular; 3. The activity is held off-campus, except in a case in which adequate facilities do not exist on campus; 4. The general public is invited; or 5. An admission is charged. C. A student ineligible to participate in extracurricular activities, but who is enrolled in a stateapproved course that requires demonstration of the mastery of the essential knowledge and skills in a public performance may participate in the performance if: 1. The performance is one to which the general public is invited; and 2. The requirement for student participation in public is stated in the essential knowledge and skills of the course. 9.7 Guidelines for Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO) Competitions CTSO Advisors in each high school may enter CTSO competitions outside the school district within the guidelines below: Expenses for each competition will be paid as indicated below by the Department of Career and Technical Education, 100 N University Dr, Suite SW 180, phone (817) 814-1800; fax (817) 814-1805. Competitions may be in any CTSO organization, which includes Business Professionals of America (BPA), DECA, Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA), FFA, Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA), SkillsUSA, and Technology Students Association (TSA). Only students who participate in the competitions will be eligible for expenses to be paid. Chapter Advisors must request such trips by completing a 910 Form, signed by the principal, to receive expense money. All 910s should be in the Career and Technical Education (CTE) Office (100 N University Dr., Suite SW180-, 76107) according to the guidelines set forth in Section 9 of this document OR a minimum of ten (10) school days prior to the competitions not requiring lodging and a minimum of three (3) weeks prior to the event that require lodging arrangements. Due to the scheduling of progressive sequential competitions (district, regional, area, state, and national) within a short time frame, it is understood that the completion of all second semester field trip forms by the February date deadline may not be possible. I. Within Tarrant County and contiguous counties (Dallas, Denton, Ellis, Johnson, Parker, and Wise). A. A maximum of twelve (12) individual conference registration fees will be paid for students participating in competition events. Competition entry fees will be paid by the CTSO chapter. B. Transportation costs will be provided. C. No food or lodging will be paid. II. Area/Regional Competitions Within a 250-mile Radius of Fort Worth A. Entry fees, transportation costs, and food expenses (not to exceed what the District has specified for food and transportation) and lodging expenses, will be paid for up to twelve (12) individual student entries per school for participation in area or regional competitions within a 250-mile radius of Fort Worth. No food or lodging will be paid within Tarrant County and contiguous counties. III. State and National Competition A. All expenses will be paid for students who placed in regional/area competition at the level that advances to the state or national competition in each category.
