II. Students earn grade points and credits on semester basis. To obtain the GPA, the total points a<br />
student earns are added and that sum is divided by the total number of semester courses attempted.<br />
A. Do not include credits or count courses for:<br />
• High School courses completed in middle school, e.g., Algebra I A/B<br />
• Local credit courses, e.g., Conditioning IA/B<br />
• Credit by exam (CBE), e.g., U. S. Government IA<br />
• Correspondence courses, e.g., Sociology IA<br />
B. Do include the following:<br />
• Courses approved for state graduation credit.<br />
• Dual credit college courses, if the course is on the transcript with the FW<strong>ISD</strong> course name,<br />
e.g., Psychology IA.<br />
• Courses transferred from accredited public or private schools and awarded credit<br />
according to the guidelines in <strong>Bulletin</strong> 100.<br />
C. No Credit is awarded in the following cases:<br />
• Courses for which a failing grade is received.<br />
• Courses denied credit due to excessive absences.<br />
Example: In Grade 8, John made an ―A‖ in Algebra 1AB. In Grade 9 he took six (6) classes<br />
each semester for a total of twelve (12) courses, none of which were honors. He made a 95 in<br />
Driver Education IA. Of the eleven (11) courses that he took for state graduation credit, his<br />
grades were 81, 83, 83, 82, 90, 86, 86, 87, 87, and 64. Compute his GPA in the following<br />
manner:<br />
