2.24 Performance standards for promotion in Grades 5-8<br />

Starting in school year 2011-<strong>2012</strong> the new State of Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness<br />

(STAAR) program will take the place of the TAKS assessment as the state’s Student Success<br />

Initiative (SSI). SSI in the future is to be called Grade Advancement Testing requirements in<br />

regards to promotion.<br />

Two cut scores will be identified: basic and proficient achievement.<br />

Standards will be set in October <strong>2012</strong> after first administration in spring <strong>2012</strong>.<br />

First reports with performance standards applied will be available in late fall; therefore, there will<br />

be no retest opportunities for Grade Advancement Testing grades and subjects in 2011-<strong>2012</strong>.<br />

As allowed by the state, a FW<strong>ISD</strong> Board resolution suspends for the 2011-<strong>2012</strong> school year only,<br />

the Grade Advancement Testing requirement for Grades 5 and 8.<br />

Other data such as course grades, student work and other evidence of course mastery and teacher<br />

recommendations are to be used in making promotion recommendations at the end of the 2011-<br />

<strong>2012</strong> school year.<br />

2.25 High School Graduation Requirements will include new testing requirements<br />

I. TAKS graduation test requirement continues through graduating class of 2014.<br />

II. STAAR End of Course assessment graduation requirement begins with the entering Grade 9 class<br />

in 2011-<strong>2012</strong> school year.<br />

III. First-time Grade 9 students in the spring of <strong>2012</strong> will need to take the STAAR EOC assessments<br />

for all of the above listed courses in which they are enrolled.<br />

IV. EOC will count 15% of student’s final grades in the associated courses, beginning in the <strong>2012</strong>-<br />

<strong>2013</strong> school year.<br />

2.26 STAAR End of Course (EOC) Assessments in Middle School<br />

I. Middle school students in (grades 5-8) enrolled in a course for which an EOC assessment exists<br />
