2.24 Performance standards for promotion in Grades 5-8
Starting in school year 2011-2012 the new State of Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness
(STAAR) program will take the place of the TAKS assessment as the state’s Student Success
Initiative (SSI). SSI in the future is to be called Grade Advancement Testing requirements in
regards to promotion.
Two cut scores will be identified: basic and proficient achievement.
Standards will be set in October 2012 after first administration in spring 2012.
First reports with performance standards applied will be available in late fall; therefore, there will
be no retest opportunities for Grade Advancement Testing grades and subjects in 2011-2012.
As allowed by the state, a FWISD Board resolution suspends for the 2011-2012 school year only,
the Grade Advancement Testing requirement for Grades 5 and 8.
Other data such as course grades, student work and other evidence of course mastery and teacher
recommendations are to be used in making promotion recommendations at the end of the 2011-
2012 school year.
2.25 High School Graduation Requirements will include new testing requirements
I. TAKS graduation test requirement continues through graduating class of 2014.
II. STAAR End of Course assessment graduation requirement begins with the entering Grade 9 class
in 2011-2012 school year.

III. First-time Grade 9 students in the spring of 2012 will need to take the STAAR EOC assessments
for all of the above listed courses in which they are enrolled.
IV. EOC will count 15% of student’s final grades in the associated courses, beginning in the 2012-
2013 school year.
2.26 STAAR End of Course (EOC) Assessments in Middle School
I. Middle school students in (grades 5-8) enrolled in a course for which an EOC assessment exists
